Apollo Quotes

  • “The Earth reminded us of a Christmas tree ornament hanging in the blackness of space. As we got farther and farther away it diminished in size. Finally it shrank to the size of a marble, the most beautiful marble you can imagine.”
    by James Irwin
  • “I guess we all like to be recognized not for one piece of fireworks, but for the ledger of our daily work.”

Tidbinbilla 40 years after Apollo 11

Speech at Tidbinbilla (Australia) on the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 by Mike Dinn – Tidbinbilla could track both spacecraft (as could Honeysuckle Creek). The Honeysuckle Creek antenna that brought us the first lunar steps from Neil Armstrong is now located at Tidbinbilla but has just been retired in August 2009. Its future is up in the air, but will hopefully be saved. Many of the Honeysuckle Creek staff from 40 years ago are in the audience. Tidbinbilla is one the key stations in the NASA deep space network.
