What interests You Most? Space or Science (in Space)?

Is it the space in the science or the science in space that has you hooked or is it something else? Raluca Yumisashi says “no matter how much I try, Space comes first :-) Kristina Lovrek says “To me it’s science first… mainly because I’m a chemist (or wannabe chemist -> still going to University…)…”

We asked a few of our members to comment on what they love. I started to get things going :

Robert Brand: To me it was the adventure – because there was no science in the early days. Going to the moon was the goal and we did not see the science publicly. It has changed and I now love the science as it has become more available thanks to the Internet and that has only been for the last 10 years really!
Bryan: Space exploration will ultimately help preserve humanity. :)
Gavin: Humanity needs to survive until we can fulfil that dream.
Tamara: It is the dream of space that has me hooked. the dream and the questions that awaken us from that dream and move us as a species to look for the answers beyond our planet and ourselves.
Dave: I started out interested in the space (Mark I Trekkie) and then found out how cool the science was.
Kristina Lovrek: It’s so interesting to hear (or read) about science from someone older (no offense if it’s offensive to anyone) than me… to me, science was always something that’s there… I fell in love with chemistry at my first chemistry class in 7th grade and it never felt like something that’s specially reserved for engineers or someone way more educated than 7th-grader… and it is available everywhere… my researches are never that hard, it’s all here on the Internet “just one click away”. Hearing about chemistry&science that was just 20-50 years before is like hearing stories about Ancient Egypt and Greece :D
My professors are killing themselves trying to explain how did people did their investigations of compound and such before instrumentalisation of… well, everything, and it really does sound like a history lesson… and then they mention a year that this or that has happened and I think to myself “Wow, it’s not that far away in the past!”
Well, I kinda forgot my point, but I think that it’s there somewhere :D
p.s. Did I mention I’m 20? :)
Lara: Space is first for me. I was into Space long before my eyes were opened to real science.
Jeffrey Slabodnik: To me, its just the basic quest to find out whats out there, whats over the next hill, across that ocean, on the next planet, for the perfect pleasure of pure exploration and adventure – because it is there!
Ricardo L. Garci: Space to me comes first, though science is a close second. But yeah, space, definitely….I was yay high when the first man went into space, and started reading all I found about that as soon as I was able to understand what I was reading at all….and tons of science fiction, too. And then also came the urge to understand the science behind all those stars and worlds out there. And, Kristina, may you never fall out of love with science, you got a really good thing going on there.
Kristina Lovre: Thank you Ricardo, it means a lot to me :)
Robert S: As a NASA civil Servant, I can only do space radiation protection research in space and for NASA. So, it is kind of both: space and research (being an engineer, I’ll call it research instead of science). I hope that helps!!
