Science Outreach Patron: This Week In Science “TWIS”

twis

Echoes of Apollo is pleased to announce that TWIS is our Patron for Science Outreach. TWIS has been an outstanding science outreach program globally and is recognized as a leader in it’s field. Both broadcast on radio and podcast globally TWIS is a weekly hour of “science-y goodness” that is that comes our way through its talented presenters Kirsten Stanford (Host and Producer) and Justin Jackson (co-host).

Listened to in 60 countries worldwide, TWIS reaches an international audience and regularly fields science questions on the air from listeners around the world.

Dr. Kirsten Sanford (Producer/Host)

kirsten_justin_twisKirsten is a research scientist in Neurophysiology at the University of California, Davis and is a specialist in learning and memory. She holds a B.S. in Conservation Biology and a Ph.D in Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology from UC Davis and is a frequent lecturer on the Davis campus. Kirsten was awarded the 2005 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mass Media Fellowship Award in recognition for her work with This Week in Science. Through this fellowship she worked as a television news producer at WNBC News in New York City working with noted health and science reporter Dr. Max Gomez.

Justin Jackson (Co-Host)

Justin is currently unemployed and is writing a piece of science-y fiction. While not possessing any form of verifiable science education, Justin is a renowned armchair theoretical physicist and has developed his own (very dubious) crackpot version of String Theory which he calls “Oceanic String Theory”, being convinced that space is a conduit for energy. With the show since 2005, he brings a unique comic sensibility to TWIS.

Kirsten did mix up the intro, but she did get the rest right! We are doing a lot.
